About me

I am a biologist, , and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. In my “day job,” I’m working on my Ph.D. in UCLA’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, studying the evolution of territorial behavior in lizards. When I’m not doing science, I take photographs of nature (especially wildlife) and document the work of other scientists. I am Editor at , a web community and magazine devoted to visual communication about science and the environment. I’m a member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), where I serve on the Environment Committee, and an Associate member of the International League of Conservation Writers (iLCW). I think that if used thoughtfully, photography, film, and other visual media can be powerful tools for communicating science to non-scientists.
